Skim This!

readingonline“…the present reading brain enables the development of some of our most important intellectual and affective processes: internalized knowledge, analogical reasoning, and inference; perspective-taking and empathy; critical analysis and the generation of insight … these essential “deep reading” processes may be under threat as we move into digital-based modes of reading.”  — Maryanne Wolf

On that note, now is the time to read, preferably non-digitally (while in self-isolation, quarantine, etc.) while you ride out the pandemic. I have read enough dystopian fiction for the time being, and, yes, I’ve read Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven and how close (too close for comfort, really) its plot is to what is happening now.

So I’m currently reading David Haskell’s book ‘The Songs of Trees.’ Yes, it’s about trees. And that’s ok.
